Concord Rolls by Fairmont State, 87-69, for Fifth Straight Win

ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University women's basketball team used a balanced scoring attack to race past Fairmont State, 87-69, Saturday afternoon in Mountain East Conference action at the Carter Center.

Saturday marked the first time since the January 2012 that CU (10-3, 6-2 MEC) has defeated Fairmont State (5-9, 2-6 MEC) at home. It was also the fifth straight win for the Mountain Lions.

Four different Mountain Lions were in double figures led by senior guard Andreanna Pool's 20 points. Additionally, two other players had nine points in the contest—sophomore forwards Riley Fitzwater and Keely Lundy.

Trailing 11-7 six minutes into the game, Concord took control of the contest as it finished the first quarter on a 15-0 run. Fitzwater and junior forward Madison May combined for nine of the 15 points to end the period.

CU extended its lead to 22 points, 50-28, at halftime before Fairmont State made a run out of the halftime break. FSU cut its deficit to 53-41 with 6:51 left in the third, but senior guard Emily Boothe notched a layup before sophomore forward Tamra Scott recorded back-to-back buckets to work the lead back to 18 points.

The Fighting Falcons were never able to work Concord's lead back under 15 points for the remainder of the contest as CU cruised to the 18-point win.

Joining Pool in double figures was Scott who went for a career-best 17 points off the bench while grabbing seven rebounds. Freshman forward Maggie Guynn also powered the bench scoring by recording 10 points. May added 13 points to CU scoring column.

Boothe scored six points, but hauled in a career-best 11 rebounds to help Concord own a 45-27 advantage on the glass.

For the game, the Mountain Lions shot 50 percent (32-for-64) including going 20-for-34 (58.8 percent) in the first half.
