Pilar Elias' goal in the 109
th minute led the Concord University women's soccer team to a 1-0 win over the University of Charleston Wednesday night in Mountain East Conference play at Schoenbaum Stadium.
With time winding down in double overtime, freshman forward
Leah Foster dribbed down the right side of the penalty box and crossed a pass onto the foot of Elias who tapped in her fourth goal of the season, and 20
th of her career.
Before the Elias goal, the Mountain Lions (5-2-1, 3-1 MEC) threatened in double overtime as Elias, Foster and sophomore midfielder
Courtney Wallace all had shots saved in the first eight minutes of the second extra session.
Charleston (3-6, 2-2 MEC) held the edge in total shots in the contest as it got off 17 compared to Concord's 10. The Golden Eagles challenged the goal in the first overtime as they had two shots go high and wide in the 92
nd and 94
th minute.
The Mountain Lions combined for just six total shots in the first 90 minutes of the contest while UC had 12 total shot in the second half.
Elias had two shots on goal for CU which had seven as a team.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Katie Maher made just one save as she picked up her third shutout of the season.
Concord plays just its second home game of the season when it welcomes Notre Dame to Anderson Field 1:00 p.m. Sunday.
