BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – The Concord University women's soccer team lost 3-1 to West Virginia Wesleyan Thursday afternoon in Mountain East Conference play at Culpepper Stadium.
WVWC (5-1, 3-0 MEC) jumped out quick, scoring two goals in the first 15 minutes. The first tally came off a corner kick while the second score was deflected in after a corner kick 40 seconds prior, in the 15
th minute.
Concord (3-2-1, 1-1 MEC) was able to get one back before halftime as freshman forward
Kaitlyn Kerrigan played a ball onto the foot of fellow freshman forward
Maggie Hall for her second goal of the season. The strike got the Mountain Lions back to within 2-1 in the 36
th minute.
Out of the halftime break, CU applied pressure to the Bobcats' defense as freshman forward
Leah Foster had a shot saved in the 47
th minute, and sophomore midfielder
Courtney Wallace took a corner after the save.
However, the next goal in the contest belonged to West Virginia Wesleyan as it extended its lead to 3-1 in the 59
th minute.
In the final 20 minutes of the game, the Mountain Lions peppered the goal as they made West Virginia Wesleyan goalkeeper Ashlee Schmacher stop seven shots over the span. Sophomore midfielder
Yasmin Mosby and Wallace each had three shots on goal over that time frame.
CU had 11 shots on goal to the Bobcats' seven. Each team had five corner kicks in the contest.
Concord stays on the road for another MEC matchup when it travels to Glenville State 2:00 p.m. Sunday.
