BRISTOL, Tenn. – The Concord University men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to King Thursday afternoon in non-conference play.
The Tornado jumped out to an early advantage as they took a 1-0 lead 61 seconds into the game. Concord threatened to tie the game in the 10
th minute as sophomore
Bruno Baptista's header was on target, but saved by Dalton Gammon.
The next shot on goal in the contest belonged to King as it took a 2-0 lead in the 30
th minute.
CU put four more shots on goals throughout the remainder of the contest, but perhaps the best chance for the Mountain Lions to tie the game came in the final five minutes. In the 87
th minute, sophomore midfielder
Maxime Ramioulle saw his header hit the post. Just seconds later, freshman forward
Daniel Culverwell had hit shot saved. The final attempt by Concord to tie the game came on a floating shot by sophomore midfielder
Moulay Hassani with 43 seconds remaining that went high of the goal.
Culverwell paced the Mountain Lions with two shots on goal. Senior defender
Xander Bailey also had a shot on frame. Junior goalkeeper
Ching Lokus Au made three saves in net.
Concord opens up the home slate and Mountain East Conference season with a contest against Urbana 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Anderson Field. Â
