MOUNTAIN LION NOTES
Sophomore second baseman / shortstop
Jenna Witt added to her MEC lead in doubles in Wednesday's doubleheader at UVa.-Wise. In game two, Witt tallied two doubles to bring her season total to 14—three more than second place in the league.
Witt is batting .433 this season which ranks second in the MEC. Additionally, Witt is just five points off the all-time single-season batting mark at CU of .438 set by Angela Mazzella set in 1997.
Senior catcher / designated hitter
Nicole Neri had a career game in the nightcap at UVa.-Wise. The Elyria, Ohio native tied her career high with three hits—the third time Neri has recorded three hits in a single game. Additionally, she had two RBI.
Neri becomes the fourth Concord player with a three-hit game this season. Witt and sophomore pitcher / outfielder
Darby Fitzpatrick each had three while junior outfielder
Abby Beatty has one, three-hit game.
Last weekend, the Mountain Lions split four games with West Liberty and Wheeling Jesuit, going 1-1 against each team. Beatty hit a walk-off home run in game two versus West Liberty to ensure a weekend split.
It was the first game-ending hit for CU since a walk-off single by Beatty April 13 of last season against Shepherd in a 3-2 Concord victory.
With the narrow 6-5 win over West Liberty, the Mountain Lions improved to 4-1 in one-run games this season.
Freshman pitcher
Tara Williams picked up her first collegiate win in relief in the victory over WLU. Over her last three appearances—all in relief—the Wytheville, Virginia native has allowed just two earned runs in 10 innings and has struck out six. In her outing versus West Liberty, Williams struck out a career-best five.
In last season's games against Fairmont State and Shepherd, the Maroon and Gray went 3-1 with all three wins coming by a run. In addition to its 3-2 win over Shepherd, CU defeated the Rams 5-4 and took a 7-6 decision over FSU.
Beatty hit .500 (7-for-14) in last year's home stand against Fairmont State and Shepherd while adding four RBI. Furthermore, the Roanoke, Virginia native had a career-best four hits in game one versus SU.
Dating back to the start of the 2014 season, Concord is a combined 14-5 against Fairmont State and Shepherd.
The Mountain Lions and SU have meant each of the last two seasons in the MEC Tournament. CU ended the Rams' season in 2016 while Shepherd eliminated Concord last year.
