RECORDS
By winning its first four Mountain East Conference games, Concord evened its overall record at 7-7 while being a perfect 4-0 in league play.
Glenville State are 9-11 overall, but is winless in MEC games at 0-4.
After starting the year nationally ranked, WVWC is 9-8 and 2-2 in the MEC.
MOUNTAIN LION NOTES
CU started 4-0 in MEC contests for the first time since 2015 when it started 10-0 in league play.
Sophomore pitcher / outfielder
Darby Fitzpatrick and sophomore pitcher / first baseman
Rachel Pritchard pitched a pair of shutouts in CU's 1-0 and 4-0 wins over West Virginia State.
For Fitzpatrick, it was the first shutout for her in 2018 and the second of her career while Pritchard blanked an opponent for the first time in the Maroon and Gray.
Concord defeated Charleston 6-2 and 8-4 in Monday's doubleheader to move to 4-0 in the MEC—the only undefeated team in conference play.
Junior infielder
Kylie Kent and sophomore second baseman / shortstop
Jenna Witt paced the offense at UC. Kent tallied two hits in each game, going 4-for-6 with four runs scored, two RBI and a double.
For Witt, she was 5-for-8 with four RBI and three doubles.
Kent saw her batting average elevate 50 points in the four games last weekend, going from .258 to .308 as she went 5-for-12 at the plate.
The Roanoke, Virginia native is also tied for first in the conference in sacrifice hits with seven.
Meanwhile, Witt extended her lead in the MEC in both doubles (10) and slugging percentage (.938). The next closest to the Harpers Ferry, West Virginia native in slugging percentage is Glenville State's Tori Ward (.750).
Another reason for CU's 4-0 start in conference games is its ability to take advantage of opponents' errors.
The Mountain Lions who are leading the MEC in fielding percentage (.978) did not commit an error in any of the four games while Charleston and West Virginia State committed a combined nine errors.
Of the 14 runs Concord scored against Charleston, eight were the result of defensive miscues by the Golden Eagles.
Conversely, CU has committed just 10 errors for the entire season.
The trio of Kent, at shortstop, Witt, at second baseman, and senior
Alycea Watson, at third base have a combined fielding percentage of .974 this season.
Last season, Concord faced Glenville State just twice with the road games being cancelled. The teams split a doubleheader at the CU Softball Field in 2017.
The Mountain Lions won game one 5-1 before falling 5-4 in the second contest.
