MOUNTAIN LION NOTES
Concord carries a six-game winning streak into its road trip this weekend—the longest winning streak for the Mountain Lions since winning eight straight in 2015.

In its 4-0 start to league games, CU received brilliant starting pitching performances from sophomore Trent Abernathy, junior Troy Beckner and junior Will Guay.

Guay started the weekend by limiting Wheeling Jesuit to an unearned run on four hits while striking out a career-high 10 strikeouts without issuing a walk. Abernathy followed by also giving up just one unearned run on four hits and fanning a personal-best nine Cardinals at the plate.

Against West Liberty, Beckner tossed his fourth career shutout by striking out nine batters and allowing four hits in a 3-0 Concord wins.

The fourth win of conference play came after the Mountain Lions fell behind WLU 5-0 after three innings. CU battled back to win its third game of the season in its last at-bat—the first two came against Winston-Salem State.

Junior infielder Brett Simmons singled past the third baseman to plate two runs and cap the Concord comeback. It was the first multi-RBI game of the season for the Callaway, Virginia native.

Additionally, Simmons gave the Mountain Lions for their first walk-off win since March 5 of last season when CU won in its final at-bat against Lake Erie.

Junior outfielder Evan Webb helped CU down Wheeling Jesuit 3-1 in game two on Sunday. While it wasn't a walk-off win for the Maroon and Gray, Webb hit his third career home run, a three-run blast, in the bottom of the sixth of a seven-inning game to propel Concord to a sweep of WJU.

Last season, Concord swept Notre Dame before settling for a split with Urbana when the two teams visited Anderson Field.

Beckner shut down the Notre Dame offense as he limited the Falcons to two hits in his first career complete-game shutout.

In game two against NDC in 2017, the Mountain Lions scored four runs in the first inning, then broke a 4-4 tie in the seventh inning as they went onto win 5-4.

Junior infielder Trevor Wiersma accounted for all five RBI in the nightcap including the go-ahead RBI single in the seventh.  The Vancouverr, British Columbia native also smacked a grand slam in the first inning.

After falling to Urbana in game one , 10-1, last season, the Concord bats broke out for 29 runs  on 28 hits as it went onto win 29-6.

Senior infielder Chad Frazier and senior catcher Paul Williams each accounted for five hits in the contest. Junior catcher / outfielder Jordan Clark and sophomore infielder Jakob Divers both had four hits and six RBI.

In his career versus UU, which covers four games, Clark is batting .500 (8-fo-16) with two home runs, 13 RBI and two doubles.

Frazier's career numbers against the Blue Knights are equally impressive with an average of .650 (13-for-20) to go along with 11 runs scored, four RBI, three doubles and a triple.

Two seasons ago, the Mountain Lions defeated UU on the road 7-3 and 15-3.

URBANA AT A GLANCE
Zeth Tanner is batting .345 with five home run and 10 RBI in just 29 at-bats.

Tyler Bess scattered seven hits and one run in his complete-game win over West Virginia State, but did not strike a batter among his 21 outs.

This weekend will be the first home games for Urbana.
