Box Score 2 ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University baseball team completed a sweep of West Liberty Monday afternoon at Anderson Field as it won 3-0 before walking off in game two and winning 6-5.
CU improves to 10-6 on the season and is 4-0 in the Mountain East Conference. West Liberty drops to 4-7 overall and 2-2 against MEC foes.
Game 1: Concord 3 – West Liberty 0
Junior pitcher
Troy Beckner stymied the West Liberty bats as he tossed his first complete-game shutout of the season to earn his second win.
The Mountain Lions' offense supplied Beckner with two runs in the first as senior infielder
Chad Frazier scored on an error, and sophomore outfielder
Adam Linkous tripled home senior catcher
Paul Williams.
Beckner retired 10 of the first 11 batters he faced and did not give up a hit until a one-out single in the fourth inning. The Roanoke, Virginia native struck out 10 batters while allowing just four hits and one walk in the game.
CU added an insurance run in the sixth as freshman utility
Anthony Stehlin hit a sacrifice fly to score junior outfielder
Evan Webb to push the CU lead to 3-0.
WLU's Parker Dyson was the tough luck loser as gave up three runs (one earned) on six hits and struck out two.
Game 2: Concord 6 – West Liberty 5
The Mountain Lions scored six runs in their final two at-bats to get past the Hilltoppers. Junior infielder
Brett Simmons came through with the final hit of the game—a  two-run single down the left field line to score sophomore outfielder
Connor Boothe and junior catcher / outfielder
Jordan Clark as CU walked off.
WLU scored all five of its runs in the third including a three-run home run from Coby Eckstein.
Concord was held scoreless through five innings of game two, but rallied for three runs in the sixth to cut the deficit to two. After doubling home sophomore infielder
Nathan Neff, Frazier scored on an error to get Concord within 5-2. Two batters later, Linkous brought home Williams with a sacrifice fly, but West Liberty escaped a bases-loaded jam and the lead intact going to the seventh.
To start the final at-bat for Concord, Neff was hit by the second pitch of the inning, and Clark and Williams both singled to load the bases. A bases-loaded walk drawn by Webb brought in Neff and got CU to within 5-4. West Liberty's Luke Nees then earned a strikeout for the second out of the inning.
With Williams at third and Boothe pinch-running at second base, Simmons steered a 1-0 pitch fair past the WLU third baseman. Williams came in to score with Boothe racing right behind him for the game-winning run.
Clark and Williams each had two hits in game two.
Sophomore pitcher
Cody Dooley (1-0) earned the win in relief as he tossed 3.2 innings, allowing just two hits and striking out one batter.
The Mountain Lions take to the road for a four-game road trip against Urbana and Notre Dame Saturday and Sunday.
