MOUNTAIN LION NOTES
This will be the sixth straight season Concord opposes Carson-Newman with C-N holding a narrow 6-4 edge in the previous 10 meetings.
CU has won three of the last four contests with a win two years ago at home, and a sweep of the Eagles last season in Jefferson City, Tennessee.
Both victories for the Maroon and Gray came by scores of 3-1 in 2017.
Senior third baseman
Alycea Watson was responsible for two RBI in game one while junior outfielder / pitcher
Abby Beatty supplied two RBI in the nightcap.
Sophomore pitcher / outfielder
Darby Fitzpatrick and sophomore pitcher / first baseman Rachel Prtichard combined to limit C-N to five hits and a run in the first game.
Pritchard earned the win for CU as she tossed four innings, allowing three hits and striking out two batters.
Two seasons ago, Concord fell to Carson-Newman 8-5 in game one before taking game two, 10-6. Watson drove in two runs on a double that was part of a five-run fifth inning for the Mountain Lions which they went from trailing 6-5 to leading 10-6.
CU enters Tuesday looking to build off an 8-2 win over Merrimack at the Snowbird Freeze Out Tournament.
Pritchard earned the win for Concord and was named Mountain East Conference Pitcher of the Week for her effort in the circle against MC.
Sophomore second baseman / shortstop
Jenna Witt and freshman catcher / outfielder
Kayle Starnes provided the offense for Concord. Witt drove in three runs on two home runs.
Witt is batting .538 (7-for-13) with two home runs, three RBI and three doubles through four games. Meanwhile, Starnes drove in her first career runs with a bases-clearing hit against Merrimack.
