Concord Gets Late Defensive Stops to Down Urbana, 63-60

ATHENS, W.Va. – Down a point with 2:32 remaining in the game, the Concord University men's basketball team held Urbana scoreless in the final moments of the game to grab a 63-60 win Saturday in Mountain East Conference action at the Carter Center.

Junior guard Tommy Bolte connected on a three-pointer to give CU (14-12, 10-10 MEC) a 59-58 lead with 3:02 left in the contest, but Urbana (4-22, 3-19 MEC) answered with an offensive stick back 30 seconds later to gain the one-point margin.

With 17 seconds remaining, Bolte launched a three-pointer from the right wing that came up short. However, freshman forward Jyles Webster skied for the loose rebound and pitched it back to Bolte where he fouled again, and once again sunk both foul shots.

The Blue Knights took a contested three-pointer as time expired that came up short and CU hung on a for a three-point win.

Concord led the entire first half and much of the second half before Urbana took a 44-43 lead with 11:49 remaining in the contest. After two more lead changes, UU built its lead up to as much as six points before the late defensive stops from the Mountain Lions.

Bolte was the only Concord player to finish in double figures as he tallied 34 points on 11-for-19 shooting and was 10-for-12 at the foul line.

The Mountain Lions owned a 44-31 margin in rebounding as five different Concord players had at least five rebounds in the game. Led by Patterson's nine, Bolte, junior forward Jafar Musa and Webster each had seven rebounds while sophomore forward Trey Brisco grabbed five boards.
