Box Score ELKINS, W.Va. – The Concord University women's basketball was downed by Davis & Elkins 83-67 in non-conference tilt at the McConnell Center Monday night.
The Senators (9-15) surged to the begin the game as they outscored Concord (11-13) 12-6 over the first five minutes of the contest and led by six, 18-12, after 10 minutes of play. Davis & Elkins opened its lead to as much as eight, 23-15, in the second quarter before a CU run.
The Mountain Lion responded by scoring 12 of the next 17 points in the contest. Senior forward
Heather Chapman knocked in her first two three-pointers of the season during the spurt while junior guard
Andreanna Pool concluded the run with an old-school, three-point play. After Pool's conversion at the free throw line, Concord trailed 28-27 with 3:31 left in the first half.
However, D&E hit three of its seven three-pointers in the opening 20 minutes in the final three minutes of the half to take a 39-31 lead into intermission.
After the teams traded buckets over the first two minutes of the second half, CU chipped away at the Senators' lead and made it a one-possession game after two free throws by Chapman with 4:05 left in the third quarter.
But, the Mountain Lions were unable to get any closer as D&E opened its lead back to five points 90 seconds later, and led by eight after three quarters.
Chapman finished with 21 points in the contest on 7-for-9 shooting. The Summerville, South Carolina native added a team-best seven rebounds.
Pool dropped in 14 points on 6-for-8 and freshman forward
Riley Fitzwater contributed 12 points and swatted five shots in the contest.
The Mountain Lions shot a season-high 60.5 percent (26-for-43) from the field.
Davis & Elkins' Aliyah Dukes shot 11-for-16 from three-point range as she tallied 43 points in the contest.
CU returns to the Carter Center to face Mountain East Conference foe Notre Dame 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
