WEEKLY ACCOLADE
In CU's win over West Virginia Wesleyan, junior forward
Madison May recorded her third straight game of a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds. The Athens, West Virginia native earned Mountain East Conference Player of the Week for her efforts against the Bobcats. In her last three games, May is averaging 25.6 points and 13.0 rebounds per game while shooting 63.8 percent (30-for-47) from the floor. It was also the second time in May's career she has been named conference player of the week after a game against West Virginia Wesleyan.
SCORCHING THE NETS
Over the last three contests, Concord has shot 48 percent or better from the field including shooting a season-best 55.4 percent versus WVWC. Against Wesleyan, CU shot 50 percent or better in three of the four quarters and was 60 percent from the field in second and fourth quarters. Sophomore forward
Riley Fitzwater hit 9-of-10 buckets. May made 7-of-13 shots while sophomore guard
Keely Lundy connected on 3-of-6 shots. Freshman guard
Gracie Robinson came off the bench to make all three shots. For the season, Fitzwater is leading NCAA Division II in field goal percentage (74.3 / 55-for-74). May is eighth in the MEC in field goal percentage, shooting 50 percent from the floor (66-for-132).
STOP SIGN
While the Mountain Lions were efficient on the offensive end versus Wesleyan, Concord held the Bobcats to 30.9 percent shooting. It was the second-lowest shooting percent for a CU opponent this season. In nine games this season, Concord has held opponents to less than 45 percent shooting in seven contests. The Mountain Lions are third in the MEC in defensive field goal percentage (39.6). The Maroon and Gray also had a season-high nine steals. Lundy led the way, tying her career best wit three steals. Senior guard
Emily Boothe and sophomore forward
Tamra Scott each had two steals against Wesleyan.
OUT ON THE RIGHT FOOT
Wednesday marks the final game of 2018 for the Mountain Lions before a two-week layoff from competition on January 3 against Salem. At 6-3, Concord has a chance for its best 10-game start to a season since the 2011-12 squad started the season 9-1. A win Wednesday versus Davis & Elkins would also mark the second straight year CU has won its final game before the Christmas Break.
REVENGE ON THE SENATORS
Each of the two previous seasons Concord has played Davis & Elkins, it has lost to the Senators by 16 points in each instance. Two years ago at home, the Mountain Lions were defeated 80-64 as Boothe tied her career high with 26 points including six made three-pointers. Last season at D&E, CU fell 83-67 as Davis & Elkins guard Aliyah Dukes scored 43 points in the game—Dukes has now graduated.
