ATHENS, W.Va. –The Concord University women's basketball team plays Bluefield State 6:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Ned Shott Gymnasium in Bluefield, West Virginia.

RECORDS
The Mountain Lions are 1-1 after two games played at the MEC-PSAC Challenge in Fairmont, West Virginia.

BSC started its season by going 2-0 with wins over Alfred State and Campbellsville-Harrodsburg.

BALANCED EFFORT
The win for Concord over the weekend came against Seton Hill as CU outlasted the Griffins 81-73.

The Mountain Lions had a balanced scoring effort as they put four players in double figures led by junior forward Madison May's 21 points. May is second in the MEC in scoring through two games, averaging 22.5 points per game.

Against Seton Hill, senior guard Andreanna Pool notched 18 points, two points off matching her career high. Sophomore forward Riley Fitzwater had 13 points and senior guard Emily Boothe tallied 11 points in the victory.

Dating back to last season, it was the second time in four games Concord has had four players with at least 10 points.

SEEING DOUBLE
Fitzwater posted double-doubles in both games as she went for 14 points and 21 rebounds in a seven-point loss to Lock Haven before returning to add 18 rebounds with her 13 points versus Seton Hill. It was the 22nd and 23rd career double-doubles for the Glenville, West Virginia native in 31 career games at CU.

Last season, Fitzwater averaged 13.9 points and 10.8 rebounds per contest and is off to an early start this season in trying to again average a double-double.

Meanwhile, Boothe came within two rebounds of recording her first career double-double against SHU as she pulled down eight rebounds in the win.

Boothe's career high in rebounds came in last season's road win over Bluefield State when she had nine.

TWO-THIRDS
Since both Concord and Bluefield State became Division II schools prior to the 1994-95 season, CU has won 66 percent of the games between the two sides, 28-14.

However, the Mountain Lions have been the stronger team in recent series history, winning six straight against their Mercer County rival.

Over that time, Concord has won by average margin of 84.0-58.3. In last season's home victory over the Blues, Concord scored 108 points in a 108-70 win.

GLASS SMASH
A big part of last season's success versus the Blues was Concord's rebounding effort in both games.

The Mountain Lions had a 50-36 edge in rebounds at home last season against Bluefield State, but did better in a 65-35 rebounding margin at BSC in 2017-18. In Concord's 50 rebounds, no player had more than eight rebounds as Fitzwater led the way with eight, but Boothe and senior forward Courtney White each had seven.

At Bluefield State, Fitzwater grabbed 14 rebounds while May had 11 and Boothe added nine.

DISTANT SUCCESS
Along with rebounding the ball at an outstanding clip, the Mountain Lions have drained 36 three-pointers in their last three games versus Bluefield State.

Boothe drained five three-pointers on six attempts two seasons ago versus Bluefield State in an 81-60 win. CU had 14 total three-pointers in that specific game.

In 2017-18 at home, sophomore guard Keely Lundy hit three three-pointers while Boothe and Pool each added one in an 11-triple performance. And at BSC last season, Boothe and Pool each had a pair of three-pointers to lead Concord to 11 made three-pointers.

LOCAL FLAVOR
When the two teams meet up on the hardwood, a total of 14 players will be playing for their respective school less than 60 miles from home.

The Mountain Lions have eight players that are within 60 miles of the Athens campus: sophomore guard Savannah Dunford, freshman forward Maggie Guynn, sophomore guard Abigail Gwinn, May, freshman forward Alexis Phillips, freshman guard Gracie Robinson, freshman guard Kaelea Smith and White.

Meanwhile, the Blues have six players that are within 60 miles of their campus: Jia Coppola, Lauryn and Lyndsay Hatifield, Dani Janutolo, Kara Sandy and Hayleigh Whited.

Concord's May and White along with the Hatfield sisters from BSC were all high school teammates at PikeView High School.

Additionally, Coppola was on the roster at Concord last season.

BLUEFIELD STATE AT A GLANCE
The Blues cruised past Alfred State 81-52 before holding off Campbellsville-Harrodsburg 79-71 to keep their record unblemished.

Sandy led Bluefield State in scoring in the win over Alfred State as she knocked in 15 points. Lyndsay Hatfield just missed a double-double against Alfred State as she went for nine points and 11 rebounds.

In two games against Concord last season, the Blues shot just 30 percent in both games.
