Concord Falls at Wheeling Jesuit

WHEELING, W.Va. – The Concord University men's soccer team dropped a high-scoring contest to Wheeling Jesuit, 5-3, Sunday afternoon in Mountain East Conference action at Bishop Schmitt Field.

The Cardinals (7-2-2, 6-2 MEC) jumped out to a 3-0 lead less than 20 minutes into the contest. However, Concord (3-7-1, 3-5-1 MEC) would not be deterred as it began to chip away at the deficit.

Junior defender Josh Sheffield converted his second penalty kick of the season for his third goal of 2018 in the 30th minute to pull the Mountain Lions back to within 3-1 at halftime.

Wheeling Jesuit scored seven minutes into the second half, but CU responded quickly as sophomore midfielder Maxime Ramioulle tallied his fifth goal of the season on a header in the 54th minute. And just seven minutes, Concord trailed by just one goal, 4-3, after junior midfielder Courtney Skerritt scored his second goal in as many games with a tap in on a cross from sophomore midfielder Moulay Hassani.

But, the eighth and final goal of the contest was netted by the Cardinals exactly 60 seconds after Skerritt's goal in the 62nd minute. Neither offense could score in the final 28 minutes of play after an outburst of goals in the first 60 minutes of the match.

Sophomore goalkeeper Kyle Brown saved seven of the 12 shots that came his way on the afternoon.

Skerritt had two of the four shots on goal for the Mountain Lions, and was also the lone Concord player with multiple shots.

CU plays non-conference rival Bluefield College 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the East River Soccer Complex in Bluefield, West Virginia.
