WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The Concord University men's soccer team rallied by West Liberty 2-1 Sunday afternoon in Mountain East Conference play.
CU improves to 4-7-1 on the season and 4-5-1 versus MEC foes. Meanwhile, the Hilltoppers drop to 3-9-1 in 2018 and 3-8-1 in the league.
West Liberty jumped out fast on the Mountain Lions as it scored 26 seconds in the contest to take its first lead on Concord in the two regular season meetings between the teams—Concord won 3-0 earlier this season.
However, WLU's advantage would not hold up for long as sophomore midfielder
Maxime Ramioulle scored his team-leading sixth goal in the 12
th minute on an assist from junior midfielder
Courtney Skerritt who notched his team-best fourth assist.
Despite several chances, neither team was able to score over the final 33 minutes of the first half as the score remained 1-1 at halftime.
The Mountain Lions had four shots in the second half, but only one on goal—the eventual game-winning goal by Ramioulle. With time winding down in the 88
th minute, Ramioulle blasted a shot past West Liberty goalkeeper Florian Dupuis as the assist came from junior forward
Max Suckel. Ramiouelle tallied his multi-goal game of the season with two scores Sunday.
Ramioulle had three of Concord's five shots on goal while freshman midfielder
Diego Marti Perez accounted for the other two.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Kyle Brown made six saves in the contest including a stop in the 68
th minute after an initial shot hit the post. Brown also made a save in the 75
th minute to keep the contest tied.
CU returns home to face West Virginia Wesleyan 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
