ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University men's soccer team got past Shepherd, 2-1, Thursday afternoon in a Mountain East Conference game at Anderson Field.
The Rams (1-10, 0-8 MEC) got on the board with a shot from 30 yards out that snuck past sophomore goalkeeper
Kyle Brown in the fifth minute of the match.
Concord (3-6-1, 3-4-1 MEC) continued to trail by a goal until junior midfielder
Courtney Skerritt tapped in a rebound off a saved shot from sophomore midfielder
Maxime Ramioulle. Skerritt's goal came in the 31
st minute of the contest, and the match remained tied at halftime.
The Mountain Lions controlled the second half, and took the lead on a goal from Ramioulle in the 57
th minute—his fourth of the season. The score came after sophomore midfielder
Moulay Hassani passed the ball through the central defense of Shepherd, and Ramioulle hit a sweeping shot from right to left that got past Shepherd's goalkeeper Mike Lemay.
After giving up the early goal, Brown faced just two shots the remainder of the day and saved both.
Ramioulle had four shots on goal to lead Concord. Freshman forward
Daniel Culverwell added two more shots on target.
CU outshot Shepherd 25-6 in the contest, and also had more corner kicks (7-2).
The Mountain Lions travel to Wheeling Jesuit 4:00 p.m. Sunday.
