ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University women's soccer team fell 4-1 to West Virginia Wesleyan Thursday afternoon at Anderson Field in Athens in a Mountain East Conference contest.
The Mountain Lions (8-4-2) outshot the Lady Bobcats (10-1-2) 20-12 on total shots and held a 10-8 edge on shots on goal.
Wesleyan held the 1-0 lead into halftime after scoring in the 24
th minute.
After Wesleyan scored an early goal in the second half, senior forward
Pilar Elias took the ball ten minutes later and crossed it to sophomore midfielder
Courtney Wallace.
Wallace found the net for the third time in the last three games for her sixth goal of the season in the 60
th minute. The tally by Wallace drew CU within 2-1.
The Lady Bobcats took the next two goals to finish out the match.
Sophomore midfielder
Mira Kontio led Concord with three shots on goal, while fellow sophomore midfielder
Sarah Hill and Elias followed with two.
Wesleyan goalkeepers Chelsea Hubner and Ashlee Schumacher split nine saves for the Lady Bobcats.
The Mountain Lions host Glenville State 1:00 p.m. Sunday at Anderson Field for Senior Day.
