Concord Beats Fairmont State, 3-1

ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University women's soccer team picked up a home victory against Fairmont State, 3-1, Wednesday afternoon in a Mountain East Conference matchup at Anderson Field.

CU improves to 7-3-2 for the season and 5-2-1 in the MEC while Fairmont State drops to 6-4-2 overall and 4-3-1 in the MEC with the defeat.

Fairmont State scored the first goal in the eighth minute of the contest as Kylee Altland dribbled to the left and shot the ball into the left corner of the net.

Twenty seconds later, sophomore midfielder Courtney Wallace crossed the ball to fellow sophomore midfielder Sarah Hill for the first goal for the Mountain Lions. Hill's shot was
from the center of the penalty box and was a rising shot out of the goalkeeper's reach.

The Mountain Lions and the Fighting Falcons went into halftime intermission with a 1-1 tie.

After a foul on Fairmont State in the 68th minute, redshirt freshman midfielder Olivia Dougherty passed to Hill on a free kick. The shot was deflected, but the goal was secured by Wallace.

In the final ten minutes of the contest, freshman forward Leah Foster found freshman forward Maggie Hall for the final goal for Concord.

The Concord defense was stingy in the second half as sophomore goalkeeper Katie Maher saved the one shot on goal Fairmont State was able to record.

CU outshot the Fighting Falcons 20-7 in the contest and also had an advantage of 12-2 in shots on goal.

Both Hill and Wallace scored their fourth goals of the season while Hall notched her third.

Concord travels to face West Liberty 3:00 p.m. Sunday.
