Concord Runs Past Glenville State, 94-67

GLENVILLE, W.Va. – Behind a 35-12 run to close the game, the Concord University men's basketball team pulled away from Glenville State in the second half for a 94-67 win in Mountain East Conference play at the Waco Center Wednesday night.

Up 59-55 with 10:53 remaining, senior guard B.J. Hamlet converted a jumper that jumpstarted a 15-0 run for the Mountain Lions (10-8, 7-6 MEC). During the spurt that spanned over four minutes, freshman forward Darian Peterson contributed eight points including nailing two three-pointers.

Holding a 76-58 lead with 5:31 left, Hamlet hit a layup to put Concord up on Glenville State (3-15, 2-11 MEC) by 20 or more for the remainder of the game.

After the Pioneers stayed with CU's pace in the in the first 13 minutes of the contest, the Mountain Lions outscored GSC 17-10 in the final 7:19 of the first half to carry a 43-30 lead into halftime.

The Maroon and Gray was able to keep its lead in double digits until Glenville State pieced together a run to cut the CU lead to four before Concord outscored the Pioneers by 23 in the final 11 minutes of the contest.

Junior guard Tommy recorded his seventh game of the season with 30 or more points as he poured in 36 points, and also added eight rebounds and five assists.

Hamlet went for 19 points on 8-for-13 shooting and knocked down 3-of-5 three-point attempts. Peterson provided a spark off the bench with 14 points on 5-for-7 shooting. In all, 10 different Concord players scored in the contest.

The Mountain Lions held a resounding 53-34 advantage on the boards with sophomore forward Trey Brisco grabbing a game-best 12 rebounds. Additionally, CU committed just eight turnovers and shot 48.7 percent (38-for-78) from the field.

Concord held a staggering 40-22 advantage in points in the paint as it tallied 40 or its own while holding Glenville State to 22.

CU will look to push its win streak to three games when West Virginia Wesleyan visits the Carter Center 4:00 p.m. Saturday.
