WHEELING, W.Va. – The Concord University women's soccer team picked up a 2-0 road victory over Wheeling Jesuit at Bishop Schmitt Field Saturday afternoon in Mountain East Conference action.
Concord improves to 5-5 on the season and 3-5 in the conference. The Cardinals fall to 3-6 overall and 2-5 in the MEC.
Freshman forward
Sarah Hill notched her fifth goal of the season in the first half while freshman midfielder
Courtney Wallace added an insurance goal in the second 45 minutes.
The Mountain Lions had three chances saved by WJU's  Hannah Thompson in the first 12 minutes. Hill broke through in the 29
th minute as freshman midfielder
Elisha Robinson served up her first career assist on the goal to vault CU to a 1-0 lead.
Concord's 1-0 edge stood up until adding a second goal on a WJU defensive mistake in the 61
st minute. After a deflected ball from the Cardinals ended up on the foot of Wallace, the Castleford, England native punched it in the net to double the Mountain Lions' lead.
Freshman goalkeeper
Katie Maher made three saves over the final 30 minutes to preserve the shutout in a 2-0 win. Maher made a career-high nine saves in all.
CU tallied 11 shots on goal, its second-highest number of the season.
Hill had a game-high three shots on goal while freshman midfielder
Yasmin Mosby and Wallace each had two shots on target.
Concord also totaled 10 corner kicks in the contest.
The Mountain Lions travel to Fairmont State 7:00 p.m. Tuesday.
