Concord Beats Wheeling Jesuit in Overtime

WHEELING, W.Va. – Freshman midfielder Moulay Hassani's goal 1:15 into overtime lifted the Concord University men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Wheeling Jesuit Saturday afternoon at Bishop Schmitt Field in Mountain East Conference play.

Hassani's goal was his second of the season and his first since September 14 at Salem International.

CU improves to 2-7-1 on the season and 2-4 against MEC foes while Wheeling Jesuit falls to 2-6-1 and 0-5 in the conference.

The Mountain Lions registered the first three shots on goal in the contest as freshman goalkeeper Kyle Brown wasn't forced to make a save until the 64th minute. For the next 16 minutes, Brown was tested two additional times, but was up to the task each time.

Concord looked poised to take the late with less than four minutes left in regulation. Sophomore defender Pedro Bassin glanced a shot off the post in the 87th minute before senior midfielder Alex Rhodes also rang a shot off the post in the final seconds of regulation.

Early in the first overtime segment, Hassani connected on a shot that beat WJU's goalkeeper Tyler Shotwell for the winning score.

Sophomore midfielder Maxime Ramioulle, Rhodes and senior midfielder Yacouba Issa Traore each had a shot on goal in addition to Hassani.

Brown made three saves in the goal.

Concord steps out of MEC play and travels to Chowan 3:00 p.m.
