Concord Drops Match at Charleston

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Concord University volleyball team had its five-match win streak ended by the University of Charleston at the Wehrle Center in Mountain East Conference action.

UC (5-8, 1-0 MEC) won the match 25-18, 25-21, 25-19 over the Mountain Lions (8-10, 2-1 MEC).

Concord never led in the first set, but stayed close throughout. With Charleston up 16-15 in the set, the Golden Eagles seized moment by scoring four straight points to take 20-15 lead in route to a seven-point set win.

UC never relinquished the lead in the second game. Down 22-15 in the set, the Mountain Lions took advantage of five straight Charleston errors to close within to 22-20. However, the Golden Eagles hung to win the set by four points.

Charleston jumped out to a 13-7 advantage in the third set, and never let the lead drop below four points as it went on to win by six points.

Junior middle hitter Brooke Heck finished with eight kills and four blocks for the Mountain Lions.

Senior setter Casey Mandeville notched 14 assists. Freshman libero Lindsay Maddox had a team-best 16 digs.

Concord returns to the Kanawha Valley tomorrow to take on West Virginia State at 5:00 p.m.
