SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va.- The Concord University women's soccer team fell short 2-1 to Shepherd Wednesday afternoon in Mountain East Conference play.
Junior forward Pilar Elias scored her second goal of the season with less than one minute left in the game. But, Concord's furious late-game rally came up short against the Rams.
Shepherd got on the board early with a penalty kick goal in the first two minutes of the contest.
CU fired four shots on goal for the remainder of the first half but could not find the back of the net as Shepherd goalkeeper Christi LaBella saved all four attempts.
Concord trailed 1-0 at halftime.
The Mountain Lions continued to pepper the goal to start the second half as freshman forward Sarah Hill and freshmen midfielder Courtney Wallace each had a shot saved in the first ten minutes.
However, SU's Samantha Leonard tallied her second goal of the game with less than two minutes left in regulation to push Shepherd up 2-0. Less than a minute later, Elias cut the deficit in half on a score assisted by sophomore defender Ali Cook. The goal marked the final play in the game as Concord fell 2-1.
Concord had nine shots on goal with Elias and Hill each notching two.
Concord travels to Wheeling Jesuit 1:00 p.m. Saturday.
