Concord Downs Shepherd, 4-1

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – The Concord University men's soccer team picked up a 4-1 road win Wednesday afternoon in Mountain East Conference play.

CU picks up its first win of the season at 1-7-1 overall and 1-4 in the league. Meanwhile, Shepherd is 0-8-1 overall and 0-4 against MEC foes.

Concord used two goals in the first five minutes of the game to quickly distances itself from the Rams. Just 1:57 into the game, senior midfielder Alex Rhodes scored for the second time in as many games to put the Mountain Lions up 1-0. Less than three minutes later, sophomore midfielder Maxime Ramioulle received a pass from senior midfielder Yacoua Issa Traore and found the net with his second goal in as many contests as well.

In the 24th minute, it was Traore's turn to add to the CU lead. Freshman midfielder Moulay Hassani assisted on Traore's first goal of the season to extend the Concord advantage to 3-0.

The final Concord tally came in the second half as senior midfielder Mahamadou Coulibaly finished off a corner kick from sophomore defender Pedro Bassin in the 72nd minute.

Shepherd scored in the 85th minute, but the Mountain Lions held off the Rams with ease in earning the three-goal win.

Freshman goalkeeper Kyle Brown stopped two shots in the first half while junior goalkeeper Michael Adediga saved five of six shots that came his way in the second half.

Sophomore midfielder Josh Mattson, Ramioulle and Traore combined for six of Concord's eight shots on goal in the game.

CU continues its road trip at Wheeling Jesuit 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
