ATHENS, W.Va .-Â The Concord University women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 game to nationally-ranked West Virginia Wesleyan Wednesday afternoon at Anderson Field.
The Bobcats, 13
th in Division II, improve to 6-0-1 overall and 5-0 in the Mountain East Conference. Meanwhile, Concord falls to 3-4 on the season and 1-4 in the league.
Junior forward
Pilar Elias started the attack for the Mountain Lions quickly as she fired a shot on goal just 17 seconds into the game.
Freshman goalkeeper
Katie Maher was stellar in the first half as she made six saves in the first half including back-to-back stops in the 38
th minute--following a corner kick--to keep the game tied 0-0 at the intermission.
WVWC scored the game's only goal 20 minutes into the second half as Wesleyan's Emily Knight chipped a shot into the right corner of the net.
Though down 1-0, the Mountain Lions produced two late chances as freshman midfielder
Courtney Wallace had a shot saved while freshman forward
Sarah Hill sent a shot high of the target.
Maher made a career-high eight saves.
Elias and Hill each had two shots for CU.
Concord plays at Urbana 1:00 p.m. Sunday.
