ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University men's soccer team fell late to West Virginia Wesleyan Wednesday afternoon in Mountain East Conference at Anderson Field, 3-2.
WVWC, who entered the game ranked 22
nd in Division II, improves to 5-1-1 and 4-0 in the MEC. Â Concord drops to 0-6-1 overall and 0-3 against conference foes.
The Bobcats scored two goals in a four-minute span late in the contest to overcome a 2-1 lead that CU had built earlier in the second half.
Redshirt freshman defender
Khal Clary found the back of the net five minutes into the second half to untie a 1-1 game. After a misplay by the Wesleyan goalkeeper Cooper Zent, Clary found himself wide open in the middle of the field from 25 yards away where he lofted a shot over the Zent's head to push Concord in front 2-1. The goal for Clary was the first of his career.
The early goals were both scored on penalty kicks as sophomore forward
Sam Ashton blasted a shot into the net in the 29
th minute. However, Wesleyan's Paul Smith equaled the game eight minutes later after a handball on CU.
Up 2-1 with less than 10 minutes left to go, Concord could not keep WVWC out of the net. A service from midfield found the head of Zach Whiting to tie the game 2-2. Moments later, Smith deposited his second goal of the game to give the Bobcats the lead. The second score for Smith was a free kick just outside the penalty area.
Sophomore defender
Pedro Bassin had one final header attempt go wide in the final minute of the game as Concord was edged 3-2.

Concord plays at Urbana Sunday.
