Concord Draws 2-2 Against Shippensburg

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Concord University men's soccer team played to a 2-2 draw against Shippensburg Saturday in non-conference play.

CU (0-1-1) fell behind in the first 2:15 of the game as the Raiders (1-0-1) scored one goal off of a corner kick at the 1:23 mark and added a second tally on a turnover deep in Concord territory less than a minute later.

In the 17th minute, sophomore forward Sam Ashton converted a penalty kick to trim the Mountain Lions' deficit.

Freshman midfielder Moulay Hassani had the other CU first-half shot on goal stopped right before halftime as Concord trailed 2-1.

Just six minutes in the second half, freshman midfielder Matt Henderson found the back of the net with his head on an assist from senior midfielder Michael D'Angelo.

The Mountain Lions had just one more chance at goal for the remainder of regulation that came off the foot of Ashton, but the teams remained tied after 90 minutes.

The first overtime period was a quiet one as just one shot was attempted—by Shippensburg—over 10 minutes. Hassani sent a shot wide to begin the second overtime session and the CU defense blocked an attempt from the Raiders in the 107th minute.

Hassani had a final shot stopped with just eight seconds remaining in the contest as the game finished square at 2-2.

Ashton, the team leader in goals a season ago, notched his eighth career goal. For D'Angelo it was his first career point at Concord.

Freshman goalkeeper Kyle Brown made two saves.

The Mountain Lions face nationally-ranked Charleston 7:00 p.m. Thursday on the road.
