BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – The Concord University men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to Bluefield College Monday night in non-conference play at the East River Soccer Complex.
The Mountain Lions (0-3-1) and BC (5-0) could not find a goal in the first half as the game remained scoreless at the intermission. Sophomore forward
Sam Ashton had a shot saved in the first 45 minutes and had another go wide.
Bluefield College got on the board first, less than a minute in the second half to take a 1-0 edge. Just over five minutes later, the Rams got their second goal of the contest to double their lead, 2-0.
After the second BC goal in the 53rd minute, senior midfielder
Mahamadou Coulibaly scored his first goal on the year in the 55
th minute to get the Mountain Lions within one. Senior midfielder
Michael D'Angelo had a shot saved shortly after, and Coulibaly had a shot blocked down with less than 15 minutes in the match as CU's rally fell short.
Ashton and Coulibaly accounted for six of Concord's seven total shots in the game.
Freshman goalkeeper
Kyle Brown made three saves for the Mountain Lions.
CU travels to Salem International 4:00 p.m. Thursday for a non-conference affair.
