Concord Falls Late at Salem International

SALEM, W.Va. – The Concord University men's soccer team fell 3-2 on the road in a non-conference game against Salem International at Catalano Field Thursday night.

The Mountain Lions (0-4-1) got scores from sophomore forward Sam Ashton and freshman midfielder Moulay Hassani in the first half as the game was level at the intermission. However,
SIU (4-1) scored the game-winning goal in the 60th minute to edge past CU.

After an early Salem International goal, Ashton responded with his second goal of the season in the 13th minute to knot the game. Senior midfielder Alex Rhodes assisted on the goal.

Concord gained a lead five minutes later as Hassani deposited his first career goal, putting CU up 2-1. But the lead was short lived as the Tigers came right back with a score in the 23rd minute.

The game remained tied until the goal by Salem International in the second half.

Junior goalkeeper Michael Adedigba stopped six of the nine shots he faced on the night. Seven different Mountain Lions accounted for the seven shots on goal.

Junior midfielder Matt Henderson paced CU with three total shots.

Concord travels to Notre Dame 1:00 p.m. Sunday for its second conference game of the season.
