BECKLEY, W.Va. – The Concord University baseball team dropped its opening game of the Mountain East Conference Tournament to Fairmont State, 12-6, Thursday afternoon at Linda K. Epling Stadium.
FSU (29-22) scored eight combined runs in the third and fourth innings of the contest to assume early control.
The Mountain Lions (26-24) plated two runs in the fifth on RBI singles from MEC Player of the Year and junior infielder
Chad Frazier and sophomore infielder
Adrian Peralta as the Mountain Lions were able to trim the deficit to 8-2 going to the sixth inning.
After the Fighting Falcons extended their lead to 12-2 in the top of the ninth, CU plated four runs in the bottom half as Peralta and sophomore catcher
Jordan Clark each notched RBI doubles. Frazier added a run-scoring single in the frame and sophomore outfielder
Evan Webb came through with a sacrifice fly.
The Mountain Lions were unable to get any closer, falling by six runs. Â

Paul Williams each had three hits for CU in the defeat. Williams notched his 15
th double of the season for one of his two hits.
Freshman infielder
Nathan Neff and Peralta added two hits each.
Sophomore pitcher
Troy Beckner (7-3) was tagged with the loss as he threw 3.1 innings giving up seven earned runs.
Concord will take on Charleston in an elimination game 11:00 a.m. Friday morning at Epling Stadium.
