RECORDS
CU is 28-22 overall and 17-9 in the MEC, having won seven of its past eight games.
UVa.-Wise is 27-15 overall and one game ahead of Concord for third place in the MEC South Division at 18-8.
MOUNTAIN LIONÂ NOTES
Entering Wednesday's doubleheader, Concord and UVa.-Wise occupy the sixth and eighth spot, respectively, in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional Rankings with the top eight teams from each region moving on to the NCAA Tournament at season's end.
The new rankings will be released while the teams are playing Wednesday afternoon.
Earlier this season, Concord swept two games from the Cavaliers at the CU Softball Complex as senior pitcher
Allie Reid and senior pitcher / outfielder
Sarah Herndon combined to throw shutouts against UVa.-Wise, 1-0 and 2-0.
Herndon blanked UVa.-Wise in game one, 1-0, as she struck out nine batters in the game, tying a career best.
The Berryville, Virginia native allowed just four hits for the game and allowed just three baserunners to move past first in the contest.
Sophomore outfielder
Lindsey Stahl supplied the lone CU run in the game one victory with a pinch-hit home run in the bottom of the sixth.
The home run was Stahl's third career deep shot and just one of five pinch hits for the Mountain Lions this season.
In game two, CU took advantage of a UVa.-Wise error to score its first run in the second and senior shortstop
Alayna Furr singled up the middle in the fifth for an insurance run as Reid tossed a shutout for Concord.
Reid scattered five hits and struck out five in her complete-game effort on March 29.
Entering Wednesday's contests, Furr is tied with
Alyssa Morris for the most career hits at Concord at 228.
Meanwhile, senior outfielder
Lauren Lewis isn't far behind on the all-time hits list with 223.
Additionally, Lewis has two or more hits in three of her last four contests and has at least one hit in 13 of 16 games played in the month of April.
Senior third baseman
Courtney Purtell helped power the offense for CU in a doubleheader sweep of Urbana at home on Senior Day.
Purtell was 2-for-3 in game one versus the Blue Knights with a double and two RBI. It was Purtell's first two-RBI contest since March 6, 2016 when she drove in two runs against Shaw.
Part of the reason Concord has rolled up seven wins in its last eight and has only dropped four games in April is its pitching and defense.
During the month of April, CU has allowed more than three earned runs just four times in 16 games.
Defensively, the Mountain Lions own the best fielding percentage in the MEC (.966) and the Concord infielders primarily of Furr, sophomore infielder
Kylie Kent, junior third baseman
Alycea Watson and freshman second baseman / shortstop
Jenna Witt have combined to turn 26 double plays this season.
Urbana (12) and UVa.-Wise (10) have fewer combined double plays in the conference as the second and third place teams in double plays.
The Mountain Lions also have 15 outfield assists this season led by Lewis with seven.
Sophomore outfielder
Abby Beatty and Kent each have three assists while freshman pitcher / outfielder
Darby Fitzpatrick and Stahl each have one assist.
SCOUTING UVA.-WISE
The Cavaliers have won nine of 10 games entering Wednesday with their only loss coming against Shepherd.
Pitcher Taylor Brandts tossed back-to-back no-hitters this season against Fairmont State and Shepherd.
Leadoff hitter Zoe Millard is batting .388 with nine extra-base hits and 13 RBI.
Samantha Ely has hit four home runs and driven in 28 runs. Â
