ATHENS, W.Va. – Fresh off a 3-1 series victory over West Virginia State, the Concord University baseball team will host West Virginia Wesleyan for two doubleheaders, 1:00 p.m. Friday and 1:00 p.m. Saturday, at Anderson Field.

MOUNTAIN LION NOTES
The four-game set will be a battle of the top two teams in the MEC South Division.
CU enters the weekend with a record of 18-15 overall and 11-5 in the conference. Meanwhile, the Bobcats are 12-19 overall and 10-6 in the MEC.
The Mountain Lions went 3-1 against WVSU by winning a one-run game, 10-9, a two-run game, 5-3 and took the first game of the series, 14-0.
By hitting .529 (9-for-17) with two home runs, two doubles and tallying nine RBI, sophomore catcher
Jordan Clark was tabbed as the MEC Player of the Week.
Clark carries an 11-game hitting streak into the weekend that includes six multi-hit games in that stretch.
The Scott Depot, West Virginia native has at least one RBI in eight of his last 10 contests.
After driving in nine runs during the weekend, Clark is tied for third in the MEC in RBI (34) with teammate and sophomore outfielder
Evan Webb.
Sophomore infielder
Trevor Wiersma is second in the conference in RBI (35) after bringing in seven runs last week.
When Wiersma drives in at least one run this season, the Mountain Lions are 14-4.
Additionally, the Vancouver, British Columbia native blasted two home runs over the weekend to bring his season total to five as he surpassed his season total from 2016.
For the second time this season a Concord player took MEC Pitcher of the Week honors after senior right-hander
Eli Flynn was selected to the award this week.
Flynn notched three saves last weeks.
The Fairview, Pennsylvania native locked down a 7-4 win over Davis & Elkins by striking out the side, pitching a perfect seventh inning versus West Virginia State in game three of the series and stranding the tying run at third base in game four of the series.
Flynn leads the MEC in saves this season with five and is ranked second in the Atlantic Region in saves.
Furthermore, Flynn tied Chris Baker for fourth on the all-time saves list at Concord with six, and his next save will tie
Damon Frazier for third.
Senior pitcher
Nate Werner earned his 13
th career win in game four of the series against WVSU, moving him to within one win of cracking the top 10 all-time at Concord.
Werner also moved into eighth place on the all-time innings pitched list (162.1).
Sophomore pitcher
Troy Beckner and Werner are both approaching 100 career strikeouts. Beckner needs eight to reach the milestone while Werner has 95 career strikeouts.
Beckner tossed another five shutout innings versus West Virginia State as the Mountain Lions won 14-0.
The Roanoke, Virginia native's shutout streak is now at 27.2 innings, and he also ranks 18
th nationally in earned run average, 1.57.
Junior infielder
Chad Frazier is slotted eighth across Division II in runs scored this season with 50.
Frazier and Wiersma rank first and second in the MEC in runs scored with 50 and 37, respectively.
Two of Concord's wins last week came when Concord was trailing heading into the sixth inning.
CU was trailing Davis & Elkins 4-1 in the sixth and was down 3-1 to West Virginia State in game three.
Freshman infielder
Jakob Divers and freshman outfielder
Carter Shrewsbury combined for four RBI in the sixth inning against D&E.
Versus WVSU, Clark tied the game at 3-3 in the sixth inning with a two-RBI single before sophomore infielder
Brett Simmons brought in the go-ahead run.
The Mountain Lions have outscored their opponents by 18 runs in the sixth this season (40-22), the best of any inning this season.
In 2016, Concord and West Virginia Wesleyan split a four-game series in Buckhannon, West Virgina.
CU won games two and four of the series, 7-6 and 5-2, with WVWC take the first game, 5-4, and the third game, 11-1.
Frazier hit a double in back-to-back games of the series while Clark had two RBI in games one and four.
Werner tossed 8.1 innings in game four of the set, scattering two runs on seven hits.
Out of the bullpen, junior pitcher
Reece Edwards allowed three hits and one run over 3.1 innings of work as he earned a win and a save in the series.
CU and West Virginia Wesleyan have split the last eight meetings with the teams also going even two years ago at Concord.
SCOUTING WEST VIRGINIA WESLEYAN
The Bobcats took three of four games from Charleston over the weekend before falling to non-conference opponent Ohio Valley 5-3 in extra innings Tuesday.
John Koon is hitting .351 with four home runs and 23 RBI. Earlier this season, Koon was named MEC Player of the Week after hitting all four home runs in one weekend versus Wheeling Jesuit and West Liberty.
Austin Keene leads West Virginia Wesleyan in average at .402 that includes seven doubles. Â
Chris Metrick is second in the MEC in saves with four while also earning three wins out of the bullpen.
Metrick has an ERA of 2.95 with 21 strikeouts in 21.1 innings.
