MOUNTAIN LION NOTES
CU enters the weekend at 6-10 overall, winners of three straight and four of its last five contests.
The Mountain Lions took an 8-7 victory over Bluefield State last Friday at Anderson Field.
Junior infielder
Chad Frazier led the Concord offense as he tallied his first three-hit game of the season, scored three runs and added an RBI triple.
For the Roanoke, Virginia native he moved up to ninth in all-time triples at Concord with his eighth career three-base hit.
Junior catcher
Paul Williams scored a career-high three runs versus BSC as he recorded two hits and was on base three times.
Over his last five games, the Vinton, Virginia native is hitting .412 (7-for-17) with six runs scored, six RBI and three doubles.
On the mound, sophomore pitcher
Troy Beckner picked up his second straight win as he tossed five innings against the Blues, allowing one run on three hits while fanning three batters.
Beckner has already matched his win total from the 2016 season. The southpaw is 2-0 with a 3.28 ERA and 16 strikeouts in 24.2 innings.
Senior pitcher
Eli Flynn picked up his second career save against BSC as he struck out two batters and stranded the potential go-ahead run at third to end the game.Â
Frazier and freshman infielder
Nathan Neff will enter the weekend having reached base in 16 and 13 consecutive games, respectively.
A product of Neff reaching base has been his patience at the plate. The Fredericksburg, Virginia native has drawn the third-most walks in the MEC, 14.
Last season, the Mountain Lions swept Urbana on the road and dropped two games to Notre Dame away from home.
Both losses to Notre Dame were 4-2 games.
However against UU, the Maroon and Gray put up 22 runs in two games. CU won the first game 7-3 before winning a 15-3 decision in the nightcap.
Sophomore infielder
Trevor Wiersma had just two hits against Urbana last season, but drove in five runs and added a double.
Beckner picked up a win for the Mountain Lions as he tossed seven innings, giving up three runs and striking out seven batters. Senior pitcher
Nate Werner also gave CU a quality start on the mound against UU last season, going 6.1 innings, surrendering three earned runs and fanning four hitters.
Frazier went a combined 6-for-8 in two games at Urbana with five runs scored, four RBI and two doubles. In game two alone, he was 4-for-4 with four runs scored, two RBI and two doubles. Frazier's runs scored and doubles remain a single-game career high.
Sophomore catcher
Jordan Clark had a huge nightcap at Urbana last season as collected three hits, scored two runs, launched two home runs and tallied seven RBI. The game was Clark's lone multi-home run game of his career and his seven RBI are also a career best.
Sophomore infielder
Brett Simmons stole a career-high three bases in game two at UU last season.
Concord is 11-3 all-time against Notre Dame and 5-4 versus Urbana.
SCOUTING NOTRE DAME
The Falcons are 3-10 this season
T.J. Lett has paced the NDC offense this season, hitting .432 with 11 runs scored, two home runs and 15 RBI.
Danny Beaver is a perfect 8-for-8 in stolen bases this season, ranking second in the MEC.
Notre Dame's coach Len Barker tossed the 10th perfect game in Major League Baseball history in May 1981 as he sat down 27 straight Toronto Blue Jays. Barker was an American League All-Star in 1981.
SCOUTING URBANA
Urbana is off to a 5-8 start under first year head coach Jake Oester.
The Blue Knights are led offensively by Brent West who is hitting .378 with 10 runs scored and 17 RBI.
