MOUNTAIN LION NOTES
The first two games of the set will be played 12:00 p.m. Saturday with a single game scheduled for 12:00 p.m. Sunday.
Concord comes in at 2-7 overall this season.
CU picked up its first two wins of the season at Winston-Salem State as it split a four-game series with WSSU last weekend.
Sophomore outfielder
Evan Webb paced the offense in the two victories as he recorded two hits in both games and drove in a total of three runs.
Webb is tied for team lead in multi-hit games in the early going with sophomore infielder
Trevor Wiersma. Both players have two or more hits in four games this season.
Last season, junior infielder
Chad Frazier led the Mountain East Conference in batting average at .396 and had an on-base percentage of .477.
Through nine games this year, Frazier has an on-base percentage of .564 as the Roanoke, Virginia native has drawn nine walks already after only taking 22 walks last season.
After compiling six hits last weekend, Frazier became the second active Concord player with 100 career hits joining junior catcher
Paul Williams. Frazier has 104 hits in his career while Williams has 108.
The Mountain Lions received a quality start from senior pitcher
Austin Southcott last Friday against West Liberty as Southcott tossed 6.1 innings allowing two runs and striking out two runs.
Both wins for Concord at Winston-Salem State belonged to the bullpen.
Senior pitcher
Eli Flynn recorded the final four outs against Winston-Salem in game one of the series while fanning two hits to earn his second career win.
Fellow senior pitcher
Nate Werner recorded the win for CU in game two of the four-game set as he went 3.1 innings, allowing just one hit and striking out five batters in scoreless relief.
For Werner it was his 11
th career victory and moves him to within three wins of ranking among the top 10 all-time at Concord.
At one point in his appearance, the Brookville, Indiana native retired 10 of 11 batters he faced before consecutive batters reached in the seventh inning.
Last season, the Mountain Lions took a two-game series against Pitt-Johnstown in Beckley, West Virginia.
Concord was victorious 11-9 and 7-3.
Sophomore catcher
Jordan Clark went 4-for-7 at the plate versus UPJ with three doubles, six RBI and launched his first career home run.
In the two games, Concord racked up a total of 26 hits.
Flynn picked up a save in game two of the doubleheader against the Mountain Cats.
CU is 19-11 all-time against the former West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC) school.
SCOUTING PITT-JOHNSTOWN
UPJ is off to a 6-2 start this season that includes a four-game sweep of Fairmont State and a two-game split with last year's national runner-up, Millersville.
Joe Gagliardi is leading the UPJ offense, hitting .423 with two doubles and seven RBI.
Brett Hileman is batting .381 this season with two home runs and 10 RBI.
Five different Pitt-Johnstown pitchers have tossed at least five innings this season. Brady Walker has struck out 12 hitters in 8.2 innings of work and has an ERA of 4.04.
