Concord Earns Road Victory at Urbana, 90-75

URBANA, OHIO-  The Concord University women's basketball team notched its second road win in the Mountain East Conference with a 90-75 victory over Urbana on Thursday evening. 
 
Concord improves to 7-18 overall (5-14 MEC), while Urbana drops to 5-17 overall (3-16) MEC. 
 
The Mountain Lions came out firing in the first quarter, attempting nine three-pointers and making four of them throughout the period. Senior guard Alexis Lowery scored 11 points in the quarter, nearly outscoring the Blue Knights as CU took a 21-16 lead after the first 10 minutes. 
 
The Mountain Lions extended the lead to as many as 18 with six minutes left in the first half, as CU jumped out to a 15-2 run to start the period to make the score 36-18. The run was sparked by Lowery and sophomore guard Emily Boothe, as the two guards combined for 11 of the 15 points during the stretch. 
 
The Mountain Lions took an 11-point lead heading into halftime, 45-34. 
 
After scoring the last five points of the second quarter, the Blue Knights continued the momentum to start the second half, cutting the lead to 45-41 for Concord after scoring the first seven points to start the half. 
 
The Blue Knights did not get any closer for the remainder of the game, as Concord pushed the lead back to double digits, 60-50, at the 3:32 mark in the third after another three-pointer from Boothe.  The Mountain Lions carried a 68-55 advantage heading into the fourth period. 
 
UU threatened once more to get back into the game in the fourth, cutting the lead to eight, 72-64, with 5:30 left to play.  However, Concord used a 7-0 run with shots from senior guard Olivia Morgan, Boothe and Lowery to once again take a double-digit lead. 
 
The Mountain Lions went 6-for-7 from the free throw line in the final 1:53 to take a 90-75 victory.   
 
Lowery finished just short of her career-high with 26 points while adding 10 rebounds for the first double-double of her career. 
 
Boothe notched her second straight 20-point game following a 26 points on Mondady night versus Davis & Elkins.

Morgan scored in double figures for the first time this season with 10, while junior guard Danielle Catron contributed 16 points off of the bench. 
 
The Mountain Lions outrebounded Urbana 48-31 on the glass. 

After Thursday's win coupled with a West Virginia Wesleyan loss, CU is just one game back of the Bobcats for the final spot in the MEC Tournament with three games to play.

Concord will face Notre Dame on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
