ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University women's basketball team overcame a four-point deficit in the final 1:24 of regulation, and outscored West Virginia State 15-4 in overtime to grab an 87-76 win Saturday afternoon in Mountain East Conference play at the Carter Center.
In a game that featured six ties and 11 lead changes, Concord (3-4, 1-3 MEC) built a 64-59 lead with 3:40 left in the fourth quarter after a put back from senior guard
Danielle Catron. However, WVSU went on a 13-4 run over the next 2:17 to gain a 72-68 edge with 1:23 to play.

Lindsey Overbey grabbed the rebound and finished a short jumper to climb within two of West Virginia State. The Mountain Lions were able to get another defensive stand as freshman forward

Madison May drove down the baseline and converted a layup to tie the game at 72-72 with 12 seconds remaining.

Andreanna Pool stripped West Virginia State's Shae Hines as time expired in regulation.
CU fed Fitzwater on the post on consecutive possessions to start overtime, but WVSU answered with a three-pointer to trim the Concord lead to 76-75. But, seven of the next eight points belonged to the Mountain Lions as opened up an 83-76 lead after a May foul shot with 41 seconds remaining.
Catron added four points in the final 41 seconds for the final margin of victory.
Fitzwater finished with a career-best 26 points and 21 rebounds. Her rebounding total represents the most in a single-game this season in the MEC. Fitzwater added six blocks in the game as well with five coming in the first half.
May also totaled career highs in points (21) and rebounds (15). It was the second time in three games the Athens, West Virginia native had a double-double.
Catron notched her first career double-double as she scored 19 points and pulled down 10 rebounds in the contest. Catron netted 17 of her 19 points in the second half and overtime.
Pool handed out seven assists, a career-best. Overbey had eight points and six rebounds in the game.
The Mountain Lions as a team grabbed 66 rebounds which is the most in a game this season among MEC schools. The 66 rebounds in a single-game are the third-most among Division II teams in 2017-18.
Concord hosts Glenville State 5:30 p.m. Tuesday night at the Carter Center.
