ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University football team dropped a Mountain East Conference game to Fairmont State, 35-0, Saturday afternoon at Callaghan Stadium.
The Fighting Falcons (7-3, 7-2 MEC) scored on its second possession of the game as it took a 7-0 lead. The lead grew to start the second quarter as Fairmont State capped a 14-play drive with a touchdown to make it 14-0 with 13:38 left in the first half.
Concord (2-8, 2-7 MEC) was able to thwart a late scoring attempt by the FSU in the first half as senior defensive back Myles Poindextor intercepted a pass in the end zone with 24 seconds remaining in the first half.
After a Concord punt to start the second half, the Fighting Falcons drove the field and built its lead to 21-0.
Fairmont State found the end zone two more times in the fourth quarter for the final margin of victory.
Junior linebacker Zach Malone had a team-high 12 tackles and broke into the top 10 all-time at Concord in career tackles. Malone now has 220 career stops.
Senior defensive back Dominic Wilson notched 11 tackles on the afternoon, the third time this season Wilson has recorded double-digit tackles.

Jamal Petty rushed 14 times for 53 yards. Sophomore wide receiver Brandon Plyler caught two passes for 50 yards, including a 41-yard reception—the longest play of the game for either team.
The Mountain Lions finish the season at Urbana 1:00 p.m. Saturday.
