WISE, Va. – The Concord University volleyball team got back to its winning ways with a three-set victory over UVa.-Wise Tuesday night in Mountain East Conference play at the Prior Center.
Concord won the first set 25-18 before winning the second and third, 25-19. The Mountain Lions improve to 9-11 overall and 3-2 in the conference. UVa.-Wise drops to 4-12 and 1-3 against the MEC.
CU fell behind 9-5 in the first set, but rattled off seven straight points to take command of the game. The Cavaliers committed five straight errors before senior middle hitter

Ellie Lawrence closed the run with a kill each. After going up 12-9, Concord would not look back as UVa.-Wise only closed to two points once more.
The Mountain Lions slowly pulled away in the second set. Up 7-6, Concord went on a 9-4 run to widen its advantage to 16-10. Junior middle hitter
Brooke Heck paced the run with three kills while Lawrence added two. The closest the Cavaliers would get was four points for the remainder of the set.
In the final set, UVa.-Wise posed an early threat with the set tied at 11, but four consecutive errors followed by a Lawrence kill allowed the Mountain Lions to go up 16-11 on their way to a sweep of the Cavaliers.
Heck was stellar with 12 kills and a hitting percentage of .611, the Huntington, West Virginia native's highest hitting percentage of the season. Sophomore middle hitter
Emily Ellis added eight kills while Lawrence chipped in seven.
Senior setter
Casey Mandeville, who went over 2,000 career assists over the weekend, notched 17 assists and 11 digs. Sophomore setter
Jenna Mounts recorded 14 assists.
Freshman libero
Lindsay Maddox had a team-high 12 digs.
