Concord Falls Versus Fairmont State

FAIRMONT, W.Va. – The Concord University volleyball team dropped a three-set contest on the road against Fairmont State Saturday afternoon at Joe Retton Arena.
FSU (16-6, 7-2 MEC) took the match 25-8, 25-14, 25-21.

The Fighting Falcons scored 15 of the match's first 20 points to take command of the first set.

Concord (9-17, 3-6 MEC) opened up a 6-3 lead in the second set after one of seven kills in the match from sophomore middle hitter Emily Ellis. But, Fairmont State responded with a 12-3 run to take a 15-9 lead. Another kill from Ellis got CU back to 15-10, but it was as close as it would get for the remainder of the second set.

The third set featured nine ties through the first 28 points as Ellis recorded a kill to square the game at 14-14. However, FSU had a response for the Mountain Lions rally as it ripped off the next four points to take a 18-14 edge on Concord. Kills from sophomore outside hitter Ellie Lawrence and junior outside hitter Alexi Pranckus closed the gap to 19-16, CU could not get within two of the Fighting Falcons at the end of the final set.

Sophomore middle hitter Brooke Heck led Concord with eight kills in the match. Ellis and Pranckus each had seven.

Senior setter Casey Mandeville recorded 15 assists while sophomore setter Jenna Mounts chipped in 11 assists. Freshman libero Lindsay Maddox finished with 15 digs.

CU stays on the road next weekend when it travels to Glenville State 6:00 p.m. Friday.
