ATHENS, W.Va. – All three units of the Concord University football team contributed in a complete team victory, 31-22, over UNC-Pembroke at Callaghan Stadium in non-conference action Saturday.
The Mountain Lions (2-6) got two offensive touchdowns from senior running back
Jamal Petty, a defensive score from redshirt freshman defensive back
Jonathan Roebuck and three field goals from senior kicker
Zack Keaton.
However, it was UNCP (1-6)that  got on the board first after it forced a CU turnover on the second play of the game.  In the final seconds of the first quarter, Petty leaked out of the backfield and hauled in a 21-yard touchdown from freshman quarterback
Adam Fulton. Concord took the lead on a two-point conversion from freshman wide receiver
Tywan Pearce to senior tight end
Jordan Bryant.
Keaton booted through his first of three field goals at the 12:17 mark of the second quarter after the Mountain Lions were set up with good field position following a blocked punt by Petty. Less than four minutes later, the Braves answered with a score to retake a 15-11 edge.
On the ensuing drive, Petty made his presence felt again by racing 77 yards for a touchdown, his 10
th career rushing touchdown.
Concord grew its lead to a game-high 10 points with 4:02 left in the first half. Roebuck stepped in front of a pass by UNCP's Dominick Sampson and ran 62 yards for a touchdown to stretch the lead to 25-15. The pick six was Roebuck's second of the year.
CU took the 10-point lead into the halftime break.
The Braves opened the second half by driving 83 yards on six plays to trim the Concord lead to 25-22.
After a 50-yard kickoff return by Pearce, the Mountain Lions added 25 more yards on offense to set up a career-long 38-yard field goal by Keaton that was good with 9:08 left in the third.
The remainder of the contest was a defensive struggle as the Mountain Lions forced two more UNC-Pembroke turnovers.
Sophomore defensive back Myles Poindextor intercepted his first career pass just as it appeared the Braves were going to score inside the 10-yard line. The second takeaway was courtesy of a forced fumble by sophomore linebacker
Ty Walker. Senior defensive back
Jeremiah Johnson jumped on the loose ball at midfield.
The final turnover set up Keaton to ice the game on a 28-yard field goal with 3:16 remaining in the contest. The kick put the Mountain Lions up 31-22.
Petty finished the game with 167 yards of total offense on just 14 touches, 12 rushes and two receptions. Additionally, Petty's 120 yards rushing is the first for a CU running back since last year's season opener against West Liberty.
