ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University men's soccer team tied Wheeling Jesuit 1-1 Wednesday afternoon in Mountain East Conference play at Anderson Field.
Concord (2-11-2, 2-7-2 MEC) continued is strong play in the second half of games this season as it erased a 1-0 halftime deficit against WJU (3-9-2, 1-8-1 MEC).
The Cardinals scored their goal in the 30
th minute off of header that was initiated from a free kick.
CU battled back and outshot Wheeling Jesuit 7-3 in the second half. Still trailing 1-0 in the 80
th minute, senior midfielder
Yacouba Issa Traore drilled a shot off the crossbar. The rebound caromed right back to the waiting foot of sophomore midfielder
Maxime Ramioulle who struck the back of the net to knot the contest, 1-1.
Over the final 10 minutes of regulation, the teams combined for one shot on goal, sending the game to overtime.
Ramioulle had one chance on goal in the first overtime, but Wheeling Jesuit's Josh Zimmerman made the save. Senior midfielder
Alex Rhodes sent a shot high in the second overtime, and so did WJU.
Freshman midfielder
Moulay Hassani had one final chance for the game winner as his shot was saved with just four seconds remaining in double overtime.
Sophomore forward
Sam Ashton, Hassani and Ramioulle combined for six of Concord's shots on goal.
Junior goalkeeper
Michael Adedigba saved two shots as the defense of junior
Xander Bailey, sophomore
Pedro Bassin, senior
Dean Byrne and sophomore
Luca Gregory limited WJU to three shots on goal.
