PHILIPPI, W.Va. – The Concord University volleyball team was outlasted by Alderson-Broaddus in five sets Tuesday night at Rex Pyles Arena in a non-conference contest.
Despite gaining sizeable leads in the fourth and fifth sets, the Mountain Lions (9-15) could not close out Alderson-Broaddus (7-15).
Concord trailed just once in the first set (1-0) as it took the set by three points 25-22 to gain a 1-0 match lead. Sophomore middle hitter

The Battlers came back to even the match with a 25-18 victory in the second game. Alderson-Broaddus jumped out to a 10-4 lead and the Mountain Lions were unable to get closer than five points over the remainder of the game.
However, CU responded strong by winnings its own set—the third—by seven points to take a 2-1 lead. Concord gradually pulled away from A-B in the set to earn the win. Junior middle hitter
Brooke Heck came up with five kills to pace the Mountain Lions in the third game.
In the fourth set, Concord built up a 20-14 edge after a kill from Heck. But, the Battlers finished the game on an 11-3 run to force a fifth and decisive set.
Once again, it was the Mountain Lions that had a convincing 10-3 lead after consecutive kills from Ellis and senior middle hitter
Shea Hoffman. Still up 13-10 after an Alderson-Broaddus error, Concord was unable to close out the Battlers.
Heck finished with a team-best 16 kills and a hitting percentage of .448. Ellis hit .393 with 15 kills and eight blocks.
Lawrence recorded her third double-double of the season with 10 kills and 15 digs

The Mountain Lions return to Mountain East Conference play 7:00 p.m. Friday at Shepherd.
