BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – The Concord University men's soccer team scored a late goal, but could not find an additional goal as it lost to West Virginia Wesleyan 2-1 Sunday afternoon in Mountain East Conference action at Culpepper Stadium.
West Virginia Wesleyan (8-4-2, 7-2 MEC) found the back of the next in the first half as it completed a crossing pass for a goal in the 24
th minute. Concord (2-11-1, 2-7 MEC) recorded the first three shots of the second half as sophomore midfielder
Maxime Ramioulle pushed two shots wide and senior midfielder
Yacouba Issa Traore had an attempt saved.
However, it was the Bobcats that scored the game's next goal in the 53
rd minute to take a 2-0 lead.
CU had ample opportunities for the remainder of the game, and broke through in the 78
th minute as sophomore defender
Pedro Bassin tallied a goal on the first assist of the season from sophomore forward
Sam Ashton.
Redshirt freshman defender
Khal Clary had a final shot saved in the 90
th minute as Concord could not force overtime.
The Mountain Lions outshot WVWC 12-4 in the second half and 16-10 for the contest.
Bassin had two shots on goal to lead CU.
Freshman goalkeeper
Kyle Brown saved six shots in the contest.
Concord returns home 3:30 p.m. Wednesday to face Wheeling Jesuit.
