ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University volleyball team dropped a three-set contest to Urbana inside the Carter Center Saturday morning in Mountain East Conference play.
Urbana (10-11, 4-3 MEC) won the match 25-18, 25-22, 25-17.
The Blue Knights took command of the first set by scoring 12 of the 18 points to up 12-6 as they won the game by seven points.
The second set was much tighter with five ties through the first 20 points of the game. CU (9-14, 3-4 MEC) and Urbana remained tied at 18-18, but UU outscored Concord 7-4 to win the second game.
The third set was almost identical as the second with both teams rallying back and forth. Tied at 12-12, Concord was unable to respond to an 8-3 Blue Knights' spurt as it won the third set and the match.
Junior middle hitter
Brooke Heck led the Mountain Lions with 10 kills and a .600 hitting percentage. Sophomore outside hitter
Ellie Lawrence added seven kills and eight digs. Freshman right side
Kenzie Coulter played in all three sets, coming up with five kills in eight attempts without an error.
Senior setter
Casey Mandeville recorded 17 assists and sophomore setter
Jenna Mounts added 10.
Concord takes to the road for a non-conference clash with Alderson-Broaddus 6:00 p.m. Tuesday.
