Concord Doubles Up Notre Dame in Win, 4-2

ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University women's soccer team downed Notre Dame College 4-2 Thursday afternoon in Mountain East Conference play at Anderson Field.

The Mountain Lions elevate their record to 7-6 overall and 5-6 in the league with the victory. Notre Dame (9-3-1, 9-2-1 MEC) loses for the just the third time this season and second time in league action.

Sophomore Courtney Wallace scored two second-half goals as Concord pulled away from the Falcons. The lone score in the first 45 minutes was freshman forward Sarah Hill tallying her sixth goal of the season on an assist from junior forward Pilar Elias.

Eight minutes into the second half, freshman midfielder Yasmin Mosby converted her third goal of the year on a free kick just outside the penalty area after a NDC foul.

Just three minutes later, Notre Dame cut CU's lead in half with a score to make it 2-1 Mountain Lions. However, Wallace scored back-to-back goals for Concord to push the advantage to 4-1. The first score came in the 62nd minute. Freshman defender Morgan Carmichael gained control of the ball just inside midfield and dribbled until she found Wallace inside the penalty box for a lofting goal over NDC goalkeeper Kyra McDowell.

In the 75th minute, it was Carmichael once again setting up Wallace. This time, Carmichael dribbled down the sideline, crossed the ball into the box where Wallace spun around and fired a shot past McDowell.

The Falcons added a late goal in the 84th minute for the final margin of victory for Concord, 4-2.

Freshman goalkeeper Katie Maher made one of her three saves late in the game to ensure NDC would get no closer.

Thursday was Wallace's first career multi-goal game. Meanwhile, Carmichael recorded her first career collegiate points with the two assists.

Hill briefly tied for the league lead in goals with her sixth until NDC's Jackie Corrigan scored the game's final goal for her seventh of the season.

Hill and Wallace each had three shots on goal while Mosby added two.

CU has a quick turnaround with a road game against West Liberty 12:00 p.m. Saturday.
