Concord Defeated at King

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The Concord University volleyball team lost a three-set match to King University Tuesday night in a non-conference match as the Tornado won 25-16, 25-18, 25-16.

King (8-9) took control of the first set with an 11-3 run after the score was tied 4-4. Sophomore middle hitter Emily Ellis and junior middle hitter Brooke Heck each had a kill in the early going for CU (9-12).

After a kill from junior outside hitter Alexi Pranckus closed Concord to within 9-7 in the second set, the Tornado went on 7-2 spurt to open up a 16-9 advantage in the game. The Mountain Lions trimmed the deficit to five points twice from there, but could not come any closer in the second set.

Another KU run in the third set was too much for Concord to overcome as it lost the final game by nine pints.

Heck led the way for the Mountain Lions with six kills. Ellis and sophomore outside hitter Ellie Lawrence each had five kills. Lawrence added a hitting percentage of .250.

Senior setter Casey Mandeville tallied 14 assists. Freshman libero Lindsay Maddox had a team-best eight digs with sophomore setter Jenna Mounts and Pranckus each recording seven.

CU returns to the Carter Center 5:00 p.m. Friday to face Notre Dame College for a Mountain East Conference match.
