ATHENS, W.Va. - The Concord University men's basketball team begins 2017 with a four-game home stand as it welcomes Shepherd to the Carter Center 7:30 p.m. Tuesday before hosting nationally-ranked Fairmont State 7:30 p.m. Thursday

MOUNTAIN LION NOTES
The Mountain Lions are 5-5 overall this season and 1-3 in the league.
Meanwhile, the Rams are 5-5 overall and 2-2 versus the league.
Fairmont State is undefeated at 10-0 overall and 4-0 in MEC action.
ENDING 2016 ON THE RIGHT FOOT
Concord improved to its record to .500 with a convincing 90-53 victory over Bluefield State in its final game of the calendary year.
Senior guard
Aaron Miller finished with a game-high 19 points on 8-for-10 shooting as he connected on 3-of-4 shots from three-point range.
Junior guard
B.J. Hamlet poured in 16 points including four three-pointers.
In all, 11 different players scored for the Mountain Lions which was the most players to score in a game since 12 players scored against UVa.-Wise on January 22, 2015.
Freshman forward
Patrick Eugene set a career-high with 15 rebounds while junior forward
Augustine Mathias added personal-bests in both points (six) and rebounds (five).
OWNING THE GLASS
CU outrebounded Bluefield State 61-28 in its final game before the Christmas break.
The 61 rebounds is tied for the most rebounds in a game for a Division II team playing a Division II foe.
The contest also represented the first time the Mountain Lions have posted a 60-rebound game since February 25, 2012 against Bluefield State.
Along with Eugene's 15 boards, junior forward
Babe Murphy added a career-high 11 rebounds Of the 61 rebounds, 22 were offensive.
It was the first 20-offensive rebound contest for the Maroon and Gray since February 5, 2015 when they pulled down 21 at West Liberty.
Over the last two games, CU has grabbed 36 offensive rebounds, the most in a two-game stretch since February 2013 when it had 36 combined against Davis & Elkins and Ohio Valley.
STEALING FROM THE OPPONENT
 To start the four-game home stand in 2017, Concord ranks third in the MEC in steals per game (7.6).
Against BSC, the Mountain Lions tied their season-high with 11 steals.
CU also had 11 steals at Bluefield State and at Alderson-Broaddus.
Concord is apart of a quartet of teams that includes Fairmont State, Urbana and West Liberty with at least three, 10-steal games this season in the MEC.
Last season, Concord never had more than 10 steals in a single game.
Murphy is seventh in the league in steals per game (1.6), but two other players have double-digit steals in senior guard
Michael Sanchez (14) and Miller (10).
The Mountain Lions are on pace for 213 steals for a 28-game regular season.
The last time CU had a 200-steal season was in 2012-13 when they had 202 steals in 29 games.
If Concord continues at its current pace, it would be the most steals for a CU team since 2008-09 when it had 251.
SEASON SPLIT WITH SHEPHERD
CU and Shepherd split last season's two meetings with each team winning at home.
In a 79-66 win at the Carter Center, the Mountain Lions limited the Rams to 36.4 percent shooting (24-for-66).
In two of the last four games between the teams, Concord has heled SU below 40 percent shooting as it accomplished the feat in a 62-53 road win February 2015.
In last year's home victory, Miller and Sanchez each had 10 points. Miller, who grew up 42 miles from Shepherd's campus in Stephens City, Virginia, has his career-high in points against SU.
On January 12, 2015, Miller scored 35 points versus Shepherd.
DISTANCE DISPLAY
Heading into this week, Concord and Fairmont State rank among the best three-point shooting teams in the MEC.
By percentage, FSU boasts the best three-point offense (.392). Meanwhile, the Mountain Lions are third in the league in three-point shooting (.388).
CU is making 10.9 three-pointers for the season, second in the MEC behind West Liberty (11.1).
Fairmont State is in a tie for third in three-pointers made per game (10.4) with Notre Dame.
Individually, Miller is third in the league in three-point percentage (.448 / 30-fo-67), and Fairmont State's Thomas Wimbush is fifth (.444 / 24-for-54).
SCOUTING SHEPHERD
The Rams closed 2016 with a win over Lincoln (Pa.) 60-50 on December 30.
Shepherd started conference play by beating West Virginia Wesleyan and Glenville State, but faltered against Wheeling Jesuit and West Liberty.
Steffen Davis is the leading scorer for the Rams, averaging 16.8 points per game, and has made 33 three-pointers this season.
AJ Carr is adding 13.1 points per game and is grabbing 6.9 rebounds per contest.
Naim Muhammad (11.1) and Skyler Roman (10.0) are also averaging at least 10 points per game.
At 69.4 points per game, Shepherd is allowing the third-fewest points in the per game in the conference.
SCOUTING FAIRMONT STATE
Because of the Fighting Falcons' perfect record, they are ranked second in the latest release of the National Association of Basketball Coaches Division II National Poll.
Fairmont State has knocked off three ranked teams in Indiana (Pa.), West LIberty and Wheeling Jesuit. FSU is averaging nearly 97 points per game at 96.9, second in the MEC.
Matt Bingaya leads five Fighting Falcons in double-figure scoring at 19.8 points per game.
Thomas Wimbush (16.3), Jason Jolly (15.4), Vonte Montgomery (11.7) and D'Onte Stockman (10.2) also score 10 or more points per game.
The Fighting Falcons have rebounded 35 percent of their own misses this year, tops in the MEC in offensive rebounding percentage.
