Concord Falls to West Virginia Wesleyan

ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University women's soccer team lost 2-0 to visiting West Virginia Wesleyan Sunday afternoon in Mountain East Conference play at Anderson Field.

The Bobcats (4-0-2, 3-0-2 MEC) scored one goal in each half to get past Concord (3-2-1, 3-1-1 MEC).

Over the first 20 minutes of the contest, sophomore goalkeeper Emily Simpkins made three of her four saves for the game to keep WVWC off the board.

In the 40th minute, a foul in the penalty area allowed the Bobcats to convert a penalty kick to take a 1-0 lead on Concord. Seven minutes into the second half, West Virginia Wesleyan netted its second goal of the game to grab a 2-0 edge.

Right before the WVWC goal in the second half, senior forward Emily Cole tallied Concord's lone shot of the day, a header that went wide left of the mark.

West Virginia Wesleyan outshot Concord 11-1 and also owned an advantage in corner kicks, 7-3.

The Mountain Lions continue their two-game home stand with a conference clash against the University of Charleston 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Anderson Field.
