ATHENS, W.Va. – For the 18
th consecutive year, the Concord University baseball team has qualified for the conference baseball tournament, and will open up the Mountain East Conference Baseball Tournament 11:00 a.m. Thursday against top-seed Shepherd at Epling Stadium in Beckley, West Virginia.

BRACKET BREAKDOWN
The conference tournament will be double-elimination format. The winner of the Concord-SU game will advance to play 3:00 p.m. Friday against the loser of the Notre Dame-Glenville State contest while the loser of the CU-Shepherd game will play 11:00 a.m. Friday against the loser in the West Virginia State-West Liberty game. MOUNTAIN LION NOTES
CU is 23-25 overall and finished the league slate with a record of 17-15 after splitting its final four games against UVa.-Wise.
In the series, senior infielder
Brad Sullivan was 9-for-17 (.529) with seven runs scored and eight RBI on his way to earning the final MEC Player of the Week Award this year.
Two of Sullivan's RBI were critical in CU's 3-2 victory at UVa.-Wise Friday.
The Mechanicsville, Maryland native hit a solo home run and had the game-winning sacrifice fly to push Concord ahead 3-2 in the top of the seventh.
On Sunday, needing a win to clinch a spot in the MEC Tournament, redshirt freshman outfielder
Jordan Clark and sophomore catcher
Paul Williams led the Mountain Lions' offense in a 12-2 win.
Clark was 2-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBI while Williams collected three hits and two RBI.
Sophomore pitcher
Reece Edwards used the run support to toss a complete game and fan a career-high eight hitters to vault Concord into the conference tournament.
In the Mountain Lions' 3-2 win at UVa.-Wise, senior pitcher
Chris Kelly tied the all-time wins record for a starting pitcher at Concord as he picked up his 27
th career victory.
Kelly pitched his eighth complete game of the season, allowing two runs and striking out five.
Also moving up the ranks in the career record book over the weekend was senior outfielder
Andrew Seigel, who with seven hits, broke a tie for fifth in career hits and also moved past Keith Morrisroe for fourth place at Concord.
Seigel now has 257 hits for his career and only the 276 hits that Bret Blevins and Donovan Huffer each have are ahead of Seigel's 257.
Additionally, the Ashburn, Virginia native is within one stolen base of tying Blevins for first on the all-time steals list at CU with 87.
Concord and Shepherd split a doubleheader April 4 in Shepherdstown, West Virginia as the Rams took game one 10-1 before CU rebounded with a 3-1 win in the nightcap.
In the victory, the Mountain Lions scored a run in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to provide junior pitcher
Nate Werner with run support that carried CU to a win.
Clark, redshirt freshman infielder
Trevor Wiersma and Williams were responsible for the runs as Williams launched his first home run of the season in the win.
Sophomore infielder
Chad Frazier and Wiersma each had two-hit games.
Werner stymied the Shepherd bats as he scattered nine hits and one run over 8.1 innings.
Thursday will mark the third consecutive year Concord and Shepherd have met at the conference tournament.
Last season, the Rams handed the Maroon and Gray its first loss of the MEC Tournament after Concord started 2-0.
Werner was charged with the loss in last year's postseason game but only allowed three earned runs.
Matter-of-factly, the Brookville, Indiana native has only allowed six earned runs in 23.1 career innings versus SU.
In 2014, Kelly limited Shepherd to seven hits and one run as he pitched the Mountain Lions to a 5-1 victory at the conference tournament .
The first game at Epling Stadium will pit the top two offenses in the MEC.
Concord leads the league in batting average at .330 while Shepherd is hitting .329 as a team.
The Mountain Lions also lead the MEC in doubles (81) and SU has hit 63 home runs this season which is 42 more than second place.
SCOUTING SHEPHERD
The Rams enter the MEC Tournament with a mark of 33-13 overall and 24-8 in the league.
Furthermore, Shepherd is the fifth ranked team in the Atlantic Region heading into the postseason.
JJ Sarty is tied for first in the MEC in hits (71) and RBI (53).
The Rams also have the top three home run hitters in the conference in Tre Porter (16), Daniel Heleine (13) and Sarty (10).
Shepherd's top pitcher this season is John Bently who is 6-3 with a 3.73 ERA.
Meanwhile, Sam Crater is 8-0 with nine appearances and six starts. Crater's ERA is 2.72.
