ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University baseball team will play its final four-game home stand of the season against the University of Charleston 1:00 p.m. Friday before continuing the series with a doubleheader 1:00 p.m. Saturday.

MOUNTAIN LION NOTES
CU enters the weekend with a mark of 19-21 overall and 13-11 in the Mountain East Conference South Division.
Concord begins the four-game series two games behind Glenville State for second place and two games ahead of West Virginia Wesleyan for third place. The top three teams from each division will qualify for the MEC Tournament in Beckley, West Virginia May 12-15.
The Maroon and Gray split a four-game series with Glenville State last weekend at Anderson Field as the Pioneers took the first two games before Concord swept the doubleheader Sunday.
On Sunday, the Mountain Lions allowed five runs in 16 innings to the Pioneers as sophomore pitcher
Reece Edwards did not allow an earned run in his complete-game victory.
Junior pitcher
Nate Werner scattered seven hits and three runs in his first career nine-inning complete game as he improved to 5-4 on the season.
In the third game of the series, sophomore catcher
Paul Williams helped cap a five-run rally in the fourth inning to put Concord ahead 5-2, in a game it went on to win 7-2.
Williams hit his second home run of the season, a two-run shot.
With the home run by the Vinton, Virginia native, the Mountain Lions moved into a tie for fifth in the MEC in home runs with 14.
Last weekend, Williams batted .461 with three runs scored, six RBI, two doubles and the home run. Additionally, Williams elevated his average from .300 to .316.
Senior outfielder
Andrew Seigel also saw his average climb from .372 to .381 with a six-hit weekend, and now needs four hits to move past
Jerrod Groves for fifth on the all-time hits list at CU.
Seigel starts the weekend with 247 career hits.
Against Glenville State, redshirt freshman infielder
Trevor Wiersma recorded his 14
th double of the season which ranks third in the conference.
By collecting two more two-base hits, Wiersma will move into the top 10 in single-season doubles in Concord history.

Chad Frazier all rank in the top 15 in the MEC in batting average.
Frazier is fifth (.391) while Seigel is right behind him in sixth (.381). Wiersma is 13
th in hitting (.369).
Last season at Concord, the Mountain Lions took three of four games from the Golden Eagles as they used a walk-off hit that scored senior infielder
Brad Sullivan in game one to win 9-8.
CU won the second and third games by a combined score of 21-7 before narrowly falling in the series finale 7-6.
Sullivan collected a multi-hit game in each of the four games versus UC and was 10-for-16 in the series.
Seigel and sophomore outfielder
Andy Szamski had three multi-hit games in the four-game set as Szamski added nine RBI against Charleston.
In a 9-1 win last season, Werner limited UC to one run on seven hits in a complete-game victory.
The performance by Werner was the third game in a string of four outings in which Werner gave up three or less earned runs and pitched at least five innings.
Werner is in the middle of a similar stretch to last year as he had allowed three runs or less in three of his last four starts while pitching at least eight innings.
SCOUTING CHARLESTON
UC is 13-28 overall and 7-17 in the conference this season.
With eight games left to go, the Golden Eagles have matched their win total from last season.
Head coach Andrew Wright is in his first season at Charleston after coaching at Concord from 2011-2015 where compiled a record 157-112 and recorded three 30-win seasons.
Anthony Brunetti leads the Golden Eagles in every major offensive category including batting average (.371).
Brunetti has collected 13 extra-base hits and 30 RBI.
Adam Jafine is 2-4 on the mound for Charleston with a 3.71 ERA and 43 strikeouts in 43.1 innings. Â Â
